Boris Pasternak nació el 10 de febrero de 1890 en Moscú, Fue criado en el seno de una familia culta de origen judío. Su madre, Rosa Kaufman, fue una pianista educada musicalmente por Rubinstein , y su padre Leonid Pasternak, un reconocido pintor, retratista de Tolstoi y de Rilke , de los que fue amigo personal.
